Theoretically, weight loss seems simple enough: fewer calories in plus more calories out equals weight loss. Unfortunately, it is not as simple as that. You should never put an obese cat on a diet without veterinary supervision.
Currently here at Coxwell Animal Clinic we are running a weight loss campaign for dogs and cats called the “Win-to-Lose” challenge. If you think your dog or cat may need to lose some weight and are interested to see if this program is right for your pet please call our clinic and book a complimentary nutritional consult with one of our technicians.
Our technicians will assess body condition score of your pet to determine if he/she is in the overweight or obese category. Once a BCS (body condition score) is determined a weight loss diet is then chosen. One of our technicians will get you started by recommending how much to feed, how long the bag of food will last/cost, and she will also inform you of your pets “ideal” body weight (which will be your target weight to reach for the challenge). The start weight and ideal body weight are recorded on a large weight loss tracking board in our reception area where we will track you pet’s individual progress. There will be a before, mid, and after picture taken so that everyone can see how well your pet is doing on the program, and how far he/she has come!
We ask that you bring your pet in for complimentary monthly weigh-ins with a technician to track your pet’s progress. Every time there has been weight lost your pet will receive a star sticker on our weight tracking board located in reception. Every star is one step closer to achieving his/her goal!
Also once the target/ideal weight has been achieved your pet will also receive a certificate of completion.
Please don’t hesitate to call us with any questions or to schedule your complimentary nutiritional consult with one of our technicians. We would love to hear from you.
